What Does a Bookkeeper Do?

Bookkeepers play a crucial role in the financial health of businesses by maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records. 

Key responsibilities may include: 

  • Recording Financial Transactions: Recording all financial transactions, including sales, purchases, expenses, and bank transactions. 
  • Accounts Receivable & Payable: Managing accounts receivable (money owed to the business) and accounts payable (money owed by the business). 
  • Bank Reconciliation: Reconciling bank statements with company records. 
  • Generating Financial Reports: Preparing financial statements such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. 
  • Payroll Processing: Processing payroll and managing employee taxes. 
  • Sales Tax Reporting: Preparing and filing sales tax returns.
